About CETLs
74 Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETLs) were set up by HEFCE in January 2005, with a further seven centres established in Northern Ireland. The CETLs initiative aimed to embed excellence in teaching throughout the sector – see the Higher Education Academy’s CETLs pages for more information and a full list of the centres.
Work with the CETLs
- ASKe! – Chris Rust from the Assessment Standards Knowledge exchange (ASKe) was a speaker at the Learning in Law Annual Conference 2009 panel session on external examining
- Blended Learning Unit – Patricia McKellar, UKCLE Senior Teaching and Learning Advisor, is a member of the unit’s steering group
- The Capital Centre – Jonathan Heron from the centre co-presented a paper at Learning in Law Annual Conference 2009 on Helping law students via spaces and performance
- Centre for Excellence in Preparing for Academic Practice – UKCLE sponsored an event on Changing academic practice: implications for future legal academics on 25 March 2009
- Centre for Sustainable Futures – four case studies on education for sustainable development were developed with colleagues from Plymouth law school, fellows of the centre
- The Reinvention Centre – Cath Lambert from the centre co-presented a paper at Learning in Law Annual Conference 2009 on Helping law students via spaces and performance
CILASS
CILASS, the Centre for Inquiry-based Learning in the Arts and Social Sciences, supports innovation in inquiry-based learning (IBL) across a range of disciplines including law. An article about the law school’s participation in CILASS appeared in the Spring 2006 issue of Directions., and several case studies of law school involvement have been published:
